Project Timeslip

What is it?

A Book... a little square thing covered with words.  It's where "Books on Tape" come from.

What kind of book?

Category: Fiction.

sub Category: Future Historical Novel.

Genre: published as Science Fiction (but not really).

What's it about?

Timeslip is not really SciFi.  It's more like a historical novel... (in the future).  Okay... yes, it is a time travel scenario set in the Perfect States of America.  It deals with a future setting exactly like our present (but completely opposite) and the classic struggle of ethnic minorities against prejudice.  Crafted in the venue of a historical novel, Timeslip weaves unrelated elements of history, prophecy, and destiny to create a classic "coming of age" tale.

"So, it's an alternate reality story?"  No.  This is a very possible future... our future, if we are not careful.  The only true difference between "Project Timeslip" and other historical novels is that it hasn't happened... yet.

For those scoffers who say the possiblity of a future America totally controlled by a Black majority is pure Science Fiction, let me remind you that four years ago who would have believed we would have a Black President with a Moslem surname?

This story deals with destiny.  The destiny of a nation.  The destiny of interrelated strangers.  Our destiny.

Destiny?

Daniel Williams, our reluctant hero, doesn’t' believe in destiny.  He is in control of his own future, and ardently subscribes to the philosophy of "Future Possibility."

Future Possibility.  The future is not certain.  Tomorrow's course can be altered -- but not by any single, momentous event.  Our future is an intricate mosaic of past events, a collection of seemingly insignificant events that become interrelated and interlocked, slowly and imperceptibly determining our outcome.

Our hero, Daniel, doesn't believe in commitment either, or at least he takes extreme measures to avoid it.  Yet, even running 100 years away may not be far enough to avoid the inevitable.  Daniel finds love, hate, challenge, and failure as he finds himself swept up by events and carried toward a destiny which is unimaginable. (see "Future History")

Future History.  “Prophecy is a glimpse of destiny, and the understanding that we are all actors; the screenplay is completed, just not yet performed.”  - Ficticius Rambulus

The great orator, Rambulus would describe the present as tomorrow’s history.  He would then extrapolate that the future is merely "history not yet revealed."  Therefore, between the two lie a series of acts to be performed that will usher in tomorrow’s history.  He would also describe an intangible force controlling these events, a force Rambulus has termed as destiny.  A true epiphany is when one of the actors recognizes a connection point between past and future.  Unfortunately, they usually die soon thereafter.
